The book I read this month by a black author was Born A Crime by Trevor Noah. The book is an autobiography detailing the life of Trevor Noah himself and how he was forced to endure Apartheid as a child. The book discusses how he was not able to claim his mother nor his father, at risk of being exposed as a mixed-race child which was frowned upon in South Africa at the time. The autobiography tells all types of stories, some sad some happy. I recommend this book to anyone who is curious about Apartheid and do not understand the degree in which Apartheid affected many people, especially children. Trevor Noah makes sure to thank his mother and his grandmother who raised him into the man he is today, saying that his mother’s goal was to free his mind.
