The book I read this month written by a female author was Hidden by Helen Frost. The book is about two girls aged 8 years old named Wren and Darra. Darra’s father steals a minivan not knowing that Wren was in the backseat. Wren is stuck in the garage for a a long couple of days as Darra is the only person she is able to talk to. Years later the two girls are attending the same summer camp and can finally address each other freely without fear of antagonizing Darra’s father. I first read this book when I was in middle school and saw it again and decided to read it again I really enjoyed the layout of the book. Each line’s last word is a separate sentence that you read at the end of the passage, expressing the shared feelings the two girls are feeling that the moment depending on the point of view of the current chapter. This story is a quick read and helps address how privileged people often question the motives of those in desperate situations and are forced to act to ensure their survival. Overall I recommend this book to those who enjoy poetry or poetry-like books. The book goes very quickly and is not hard to understand.
