The Song of Achilles Written by Madeline Miller is a very compelling read. We follow the life of Patroclus and his relationship with Achilles. Achilles just like in Greek mythology is a demi-god set up to be a hero in the war of a lifetime. However, where this book truly finds its beauty is in the way Patroclus loves Achilles selflessly. Miller is able to navigate the sensitivities of war and homosexuality in this era to exemplify what it means to love someone beyond your own wants. Moreover, the threads of fate that linger throughout the novel keep the reader on their toes events and people change. Overall, Miller captures something truly meaningful in what it means to care for and love that one person.
