My favorite book by a black author is The Narrative of the Life of Fredrick Douglas. I enjoy this book because it depicted the trials faced by a slave and Douglas’ personal journey to freedom through literacy. This book highlights the power of literacy and its stance is something that I totally agree with. Becoming literate is life changing and in our country, we often take it for granted that we have schools and teachers that care for us and our education. This book proves to me that through hard work, I may accomplish the most unimaginable feats in life. I have no room to complain about anything after reading this biography, for I am blessed. This book is extremely important in understanding our nations dark history and how it continues to live on plaguing society.
