For my Women’ month book, I read the Vanishing Half by Brit Bennet. This was a very interesting and complex read that explored themes such as race, gender, and family. It follows the lives of twin sisters who live in the fictional town of Mallard, Louisiana, and when they run away from home, one of the twins marries a white man and passes as white whereas the other one marries a black man and identifies as black. The rest of the story follows the lives of their daughters and other people they interact with. This was a very though-provoking read and I think it’s a very important one, as it explores the topic of colorism, and how different groups are impacted by it. I would highly recommend this book!
